Dr Gislene Wolfart is the Lead Psychologist at Oxford Mind and Body with several years’ experience working in public and private sectors, as well at the University Counselling Services. Gislene works with a variety of presentations (including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, OCD, relationship difficulties and bereavement, amongst others) and also specialises in the treatment of eating disorders and their co-morbidities.
Gislene has experience of working with many approaches developed for the treatment of Eating Disorders (MANTRA (Maudsley Model of Anorexia Treatment for Adults), SSCM (Specialist Supportive Clinical Management), CBT-E (a type of CBT specific for Eating Disorders) and FDT (Focal Psychodynamic Therapy). These experiences enable Gislene not only to deliver recommended first step treatments but also to tailor a piece of therapy to suit individual clients’ needs.
Gislene has attended training in additional therapies including Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT), and MBT-ED (a specific MBT adaptation for eating disorders). Having specialised in the psychodynamic approach during her doctoral training she is particularly interested in the use of attachment models in the treatment of mental health and life difficulties (e.g. MBT and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy), whilst also appreciating the importance of gentle problem solving based coaching in order to achieve change (such as CBT).
Gislene is a Chartered Psychologist Specialising in Psychotherapy and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (CPsychol ROSPIP AFBPsS). She is registered as a Practicing Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
In addition to therapy, Gislene is interested in research looking at how working in mental health can impact on clinicians.
Feedback for Gislene
Therapy sessions with Gislene were helpful. Gislene is understanding and allowed me to work at my own pace, not putting unnecessary pressure on me.
I have found treatment very difficult `{`and`}` have battled with my eating disorder to engage with the treatment process. I feel I have a better understanding of my anorexia and why I chose to run and hide in it. My therapy with Gislene has helped me to identify this and areas I need to work on. On the whole I feel Gislene was helpful, encouraging and understanding, she really listened to me and I was heard.
Gislene is amazing. She is very approachable and I felt I could discuss anything with her.
It has been very difficult but I think throughout my therapy the right level of strictness and sympathy was always achieved… for someone who struggles so much with openness it is amazing how comfortable I feel with Gislene now.
…my therapist seemed to truly understand my inner feelings, treated me with respect, and overall made a huge improvement on my life. Thank you very much for your help.
I cannot thank you enough for the guidance and support you have provided me with over these last years. The work we have done together has been so significant, and I so appreciate the space you have cultivated to facilitate that. My sincere and heartfelt thanks.
Thank you for the support you have given our daughter. We are so pleased with her progress and the fact she can go to university now. She has said how helpful you have been and in her words, she feels you have been on her side, unlike at [her previous provider] where she felt she was being punished.
