Dr Anneka Kumar

Dr Anneka Kumar is a Senior Clinical Psychologist in a specialist NHS service, with nine years’ experience working in the NHS and charity sector. Anneka is registered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC).

 

Anneka’s clinical experience includes working with children, adults and older adults across various NHS primary, secondary and specialist care services. Anneka works with difficulties such as stress, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, PTSD, bereavement, relationship difficulties, and emotional dysregulation. She has experience of working with clients with visual impairments. Anneka also has experience of working with individuals who are neurodiverse, such as people who have a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD.

 

In therapy, Anneka works with clients to develop a shared understanding of how their difficulties developed whilst exploring their values and what is truly important and meaningful to them. She uses a tailored therapeutic approach to support clients to achieve their therapeutic goals and alleviate distress. Anneka uses an integrative approach and draws on several evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness.

 

Anneka is a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed practitioner, understanding individuals in the context of their life experiences. She offers a compassionate, non-judgemental, and safe space to help clients to explore their difficulties and struggles. She believes that a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship plays a key role in facilitating recovery and growth.

 

In additional to therapy, Anneka has particular research interests in autism and trauma.
